Gianni Zuiverloon returns to the Eredivisie after a four-year absence from ADO Den Haag. The 33-year-old defender signs a one-season contract with the Hofstad club, with the option for another year.
Between 2013 and 2016, Zuiverloon was also under contract with ADO, where he scored 83 official matches and three hits in three years. The born Rotterdammer, who became European champion with the Dutch Juniors in 2007, started his career at Feyenoord and also played for RKC Waalwijk and sc Heerenveen in the Netherlands.
Over the years, Zuiverloon has gained experience abroad at West Bromwich Albion, Ipswich Town and the Spanish clubs RCD Mallorca and Cultural Leonesa. The last two years he was under contract in India with Delhi Dynamos and Kerala Blasters.
“There was only one club where a return fit perfectly into the picture and that was ADO Den Haag”, says Zuiverloon on the site from the club. “I have already had three good years here and have only positive feelings at this club. I hope to add something within the lines, but also want to add value to the young selection beyond that.”
Zuiverloon, who has been training with ADO under 21 for some time, will play in The Hague on the basis of a performance contract. “We find it important and valuable to add the experienced Zuiverloon to the selection, especially after the loss of Peet Bijen,” says Martin Jol of the technical heart. Bees is struggling with an ankle injury and cannot be deployed in the coming weeks.
Next Saturday, Zuiverloon can already make its debut for ADO, which will then play a home game against FC Twente (kick-off at 4.30 pm). The team of trainer Aleksandar Ranković took only four points in the first seven rounds and is in the lower echelons of the Eredivisie.
