(Burnley – Chelsea 0-3) Hakim Ziyech has really found himself at Chelsea. He is the first since Diego Costa in 2014 to score in his first two games from the start for the club.
It was dramatic for Chelsea during the warm-up. Timo Werner should rest and start on the bench, but then the talented but injured Christian Pulisic got an injury before the match.
Werner was thus thrown in from the start, and it should prove to work quite well for Frank Lampard’s Chelsea.
Because there was no drama when the match itself started. Then it was just full control.
Hakim Ziyech hammered Chelsea in the lead with his good left foot in the first half after a nice attack from the blue jerseys. He also scored in midweek when Chelsea planed over Russian Krasnodar, and according to Opta, he is thus the first player since Diego Costa in 2014 to score in his first two Chelsea games from the start.
– I had a chat with him after we signed him and got excited about the confidence. It’s an inner confidence I love, manager Frank Lampard said before the match.
– We need players with confidence and personality. He has been a dream to work with, the manager said, no less satisfied after 3-0 over Burnley.
Burnley had terribly little to offer at home on Turf Moor. Apart from a scare shot from Ashley Barnes in the opening minutes, Sean Dyche was made uncharacteristically toothless, and Chelsea dominated the match from start to finish. Chelsea’s new goalkeeper Edouard Mendy was not put to a single try, and he has now kept a clean sheet in five games in a row.
Kepa Arrizabalaga guarded the cage in the 3-3 match against Southampton, the only match Chelsea have conceded in the last six matches. The Spaniard will struggle to regain space between the bars.
For Mendy, in fact, is the first Chelsea goalkeeper to keep the cage clean in his first three Premier League games since legend Petr Cech did so in 2004. That’s a nice statistic to take with you.
Chelsea created many chances, but had to wait until the second half before they scored second. On a corner provided by Ziyech, Kurt Zouma stepped up and stabbed in the 2-0 score.
It was the midfielder’s third goal this season.
