OANN will not be able to post videos, broadcast live for a week and will have to reapply to the YouTube Partner program to regain its right to earn money.

The suspension is the first action taken against OANN under the terms of YouTube. The platform uses a system of three “deviations”, according to which a channel can be permanently removed.

“Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have been working to prevent the spread of harmful misinformation associated with Covid-19 on YouTube,” said spokesman Ivy Choi. “After careful analysis, we removed a clip from OANN and issued a notification to the channel for violating our Covid-19 misinformation policy, which prohibits content that claims there is a guaranteed treatment.”

In addition, the platform’s representative said, “due to repeated violations of our Covid-19 misinformation policy and other channel monetization policies, we have suspended the YouTube Partner Program channel and, as a result, monetized it on the platform.” .

Since the beginning of the pandemic, YouTube has removed more than 200,000 videos related to misinformation. The company removes videos claiming that there is a cure for the virus or that the pandemic is a hoax, but also videos that discourage people from seeking medical attention.
