For years and years in what seems like an endless interval, Samsung, Apple and Huawei have known to be the smartphone companies with the largest number of devices distributed worldwide. Today, for the first time, that triad has been interrupted to make way for another Chinese manufacturer: according to Canalys, Xiaomi surpasses Apple in distribution.
It is not only according to the consulting firm Canalys, IDC also handles the same figures. Even if it were for a few million units, the fact is that Xiaomi has finally made a place on the podium of the most relevant manufacturers in the world, surpassing nothing more and nothing less than the North American giant.
For the first time Xiaomi appears in the top 3 of smartphone distributors
At the end of the third quarter of 2020, the figures report that Xiaomi managed to distribute 47.1 million units worldwide. Those figures are 3.9 million units above those achieved by Apple. Keep in mind that due to Apple’s production delays, the launch of the iPhone 12 was not considered for this statistic.
That means that even though Xiaomi is approaching important numbers, we may have to wait a few more quarters until it can affirm this position of circumstantial superiority. For its part, Samsung is very comfortable at the top with 80.2 million devices distributed and much lower is Huawei with 51.7 million.
But if we are going to talk about important numbers for Xiaomi then we also have to mention that its growth has been impressive. Especially if we take into account that the Chinese company has distributed approximately 15 million more units compared to the end of the same period in 2019.
Xiaomi surpasses Apple in distribution and although that may change in the immediately consecutive quarter, it is undeniable that the Chinese company is conducting an excellent campaign in the midst of one of the most chaotic political and social climates the planet has experienced in many years.
