Georginio Wijnaldum is relieved after the 3-1 victory of the Dutch national team in the Nations League match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The team of national coach Frank de Boer booked its first win in six games.
‘Second half was not like the first’
“We were ready for a victory. It was already five games ago”, said the satisfied captain Wijnaldum on Sunday at the WE after the game against Bosnia.
The Liverpool midfielder gave the Orange a 2-0 lead with two goals in the first fifteen minutes. Despite the strong start, he also made a critical comment about the game from the end of the first half.
“We started well”, continued Wijnaldum. “We’ve had a few times when we only started well in the second half, but today it was the other way around. We were sloppy from the end of the first half. Maybe we wanted to attack too much and we can’t keep that up for the entire game. . “
In the second half, the Netherlands had a bit more trouble with Bosnia. Memphis Depay took care of the 3-0 ten minutes after the break, but then substitute Smail Prevljak brought the Bosnians back. However, the first victory under De Boer was no longer given away.
“The second half was not like the first”, Wijnaldum concluded. “We lost the ball more often, so we had to go back. That also made it a bit more difficult.”
Because of the victory, the Netherlands is currently in the lead in group 1 of Division A of the Nations League. Later in the evening, Poland or Italy can take the first place. Those two countries will play against each other at 8.45 p.m. in Reggio Emilia.
