It will be possible to record conversations via Party Chat while gaming on PlayStation 5. The recordings can then be sent to Sony for review. Users can report in this way if the rules for using Party Chat on the PlayStation are being violated.
The new functionality became known because users on the PlayStation 4 suddenly received a message after an update that their conversations can be recorded via Party Chat. Then Sony confirmed this new functionality in one blog.
Sony writes that “reviewing voice chat recordings will be a new feature on the PlayStation 5 as it becomes available. It will allow users to record their voice chats on the PlayStation 5 and submit it for moderation.”
Because of the report, some users thought that Sony could actively listen in on all conversations that are being made via Party Chat. From Sony’s description it can be concluded that only conversations that are recorded and reported by another user are listened to by Sony.
Recording the Party Chat is currently only possible on the PlayStation 5, which will be released later this year. Players on the Playstation 4 can only have a voice chat together with players on the new PlayStation 5. That is why they will see the warning that their conversations can also be recorded via Party Chat and sent to Sony.
