When you think of robots, especially those that can replace routine activities, you immediately notice the benefits: they can work non-stop, they will not take vacations or lunch breaks. But what if they fed you when you needed to? The EU is donating more than 3 million euros to finance a unique project.
The European Union is offering an amount of over 3 million euros to finance a unique project, and Romania is part of this initiative. It’s about X-PIC, an approach that says nothing at first sight, but which is very interesting.
Because among the ideas that could receive financial support are edible robots. That is, intelligent machines that can provide you with food in case of need. Romania participates in this project through the National Research-Development Institute for Isotopic and Molecular Technologies – INCDTIM Cluj-Napoca.
Edible robots – the project that could help humanity enormously
One of these ideas that could receive funding is for edible robots. These are, in fact, robotic foods that could provide vital nutrition to people and animals in emergencies.
In the last round of investments in the European Innovation Council’s (CEI) Pathfinder Open pilot project, funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program, 58 high-impact new technologies were selected. The X-PIC project, of which Romania is part, through the National Research-Development Institute for Isotopic and Molecular Technologies – INCDTIM Cluj-Napoca, X-PIC, will benefit from 3,075,000 euros.
The EU is putting millions of euros at stake to fund projects that can have a major impact on the future of humanity. The countries from which most of the selected projects come are Germany, Italy, Spain, France and Switzerland, almost 30% of which are led by women researchers; 26% of projects have been classified as “green technologies” designed to support the objectives of the European Green Pact.
