After being the subject of several rumors and has already started to be marketed by several US stores, the new Google Chromecast has been officially unveiled.
At the latest Google conference, the American company unveiled its new hardware portfolio, starting with two Pixel 5 and Pixel 4A 5G phones, a new Neste Audio smart speaker and, last but not least, a completely reinvented Google Chromecast.
In the past, Chromecast only worked on an Android smartphone or tablet. Basically, you started a movie on your phone and, through the wireless connection in the house, you transmitted the video stream for playback to the TV. Chromecast hasn’t been a standalone device until now.
From now on, “Chromecast with Google TV”, after its official name, can be purchased and used even if you do not have an Android phone or tablet. Similar to an Apple TV, for example, the interaction is done with a remote control included in the package. It has an interface very similar to that of Android TV, only from now on it seems that it will be called Google TV.
For the rest, we are still talking about an HDMI stick that you connect to the TV and that you power from a USB port of the same TV or from the socket, just like on a phone. The actual power supply is via a USB C port.
In terms of hardware, the gadget is able to display a 4K signal on the TV at 60 frames per second. It is Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HDR10 + certified. Supports Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Atmos audio signal in pass-through mode. It has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 802.11ac. Since you hide it behind the TV, I don’t understand why you can buy it in more colors, but it will be available in Snow (Sunrise), Sunrise (Sky) and Sky (Sky) shades. The purchase price is $ 50 and will be available for purchase starting October 15th.
