With his success at Sunday’s Eifel Grand Prix on Sunday, Lewis Hamilton broke Michael Schumacher’s 91 record in racing victories and is virtually certain to be at the level of a German legend in this regard as the seven-time world champion at the end of the year.
Sebastian Vettel, who is well acquainted with both Schumacher and Hamilton, was also asked about the Mercedes English milestone, and the four-time champion said:
“For me, Michael will always be my hero. I saw in it what no one else did. As a child, he was my idol, obviously this is not the case with Lewis, as he is my rival. In 15-20 years, I may appreciate Hamilton’s achievements more, ”he told Sport1.
“I didn’t see a driver better than Michael. If one saw go-karting… We started the Race of Champions together quite a few times, where I learned even more about his abilities, how he dominated the car. From my own experience, I can say that he had such innate talents as no one else. ”
Recently, similar to Hamilton, Schumachert’s position was Fernando Alonso, and three-time world champion Sir Jackie Stewart did not even rank English among the top three or four best.
Regarding setting the record, the 36-year-old pilot also talked about this phenomenon:
“A lot of people are belittled, especially the older racers. For some reason they scream at me, I don’t know the reason, but one day they might get over it. I have terribly respect for the legends of the past, even if they keep saying negative things about me, ”Hamilton said.
“I can promise that in 20 years, or I know when, I won’t pull down any of the younger riders,” he added.
