The legendary Italian motorcycle racer, nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi admitted that he had contracted the coronavirus.
Rossi was unable to come to the Spanish Alcanis, where the Grand Prix of Aragon, the tenth stage of MotoGP, will take place this weekend, but most likely he will have to miss the next race, which will be held in a week on the same track.
“Unfortunately, I woke up this morning and felt unwell. The bones hurt, there was a slight fever, and I immediately called the doctor, who tested me twice, – said in an official statement released by the Yamaha rider. – The rapid test was negative, like the one I took on Tuesday. But the second, the results of which were sent to me today at 16 o’clock, alas, turned out to be positive.
I want to remain optimistic and confident, but I expect to miss the second race in Aragon. I am upset and angry, because I did everything possible to adhere to the safety protocol, and after returning from Le Mans I was on self-isolation (last Sunday in France another MotoGP stage was held).
In any case, the situation is as it is, and I cannot change it. Now I have to follow the advice of doctors and just hope that I will recover soon. “
Rossi became the second victim of coronavirus in the motorcycle racing community: before that, 22-year-old Spaniard Jorge Martin, one of the contenders for the title in the youth category Moto2, was infected. However, last week, six members of the Yamaha technical team, Valentino’s team, were forced to miss a weekend at Le Mans when one of them was diagnosed with the coronavirus. But it is believed that Rossi did not contact them.
The 2020 season is not going well for Valentino Rossi, the Italian takes only 13th place in the individual standings: he only went up to the podium once, while in nine races he had four retirements.
