With at least 94,000 new contaminations, the total in the United States reached 9.04 million (about 3% of the total population), according to Johns Hopkins University.

Significant increases were recorded in 21 states shortly before the presidential election.

This was the second consecutive day with a record number of infections, after 91,248 cases were reported on Thursday.

The death toll from the new coronavirus exceeded 229,000. For the third time this month, on Thursday, more than 1,000 deaths were recorded.

Hospitals in six US states have the highest number of patients diagnosed with Covid-19 since the outbreak began here. The number of those hospitalized increased to over 50% in October, to 46,000, the highest proportion recorded since mid-August, informs Reuters.

Among the hardest hit states are Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

The United States is the most affected country in the world, followed by India (more than 8.1 million cases and over 121,000 deaths) and Brazil (over 5.5 million cases and over 159,000 deaths).

Globally, since the discovery of the new coronavirus at the end of last year in Wuhan, China, more than 45.5 million cases of infection and more than 1.18 million associated deaths have been reported.
