While the name of the winner of the US presidential election is long awaited, polls show voter preferences based on social status, gender or origin. France TV Info reviews this data collected by Edison Research.

Women, more and more inclined towards Democrats

From one choice to another, some constants do not change. As in 2016, most women voted for the Democratic Party. Joe Biden was elected by 56% of the female electorate, 2% more than Hillary Clinton in 2016. As for the male electorate, 49% of men preferred Trump and 48% preferred Biden. The rest were chosen by independent candidates.

Ethnic minorities, seduced by Biden

Polls also show a very different vote between the white and minority electorates. The former voted 57% for the incumbent president, while Biden got the votes of 87% of the black electorate, 66% of the Hispanic electorate and 63% of the Asian electorate. These data are similar to those passed by Hillary Clinton in 2016.

LGBT vote declining for Democrats

Instead, the LGBT electorate voted less for Biden than it did for Clinton. In total, 61% of the electorate elected the Democratic candidate, compared to 78% four years ago.

Biden, the choice of most young people

62% of the electorate under the age of 30 turned to the proposal of the Democrats in the White House, with 7 percentage points more than in 2016. As for the seniors at least 65 years old, they preferred it in proportion of 51% Trump, 2% less than in 2016.

Big cities prefer Biden

As for city residents with more than 50,000 inhabitants, 60% say they voted for the Democratic candidate. A percentage almost equivalent to that of 2016, when it amounted to 59%. In contrast, 54% of rural residents preferred the Republican candidate. It is a significant decrease compared to four years ago, when the percentage was 62%.

The rich are pro-Trump

Donald Trump got the vote of the rich Americans. Specifically, 54% of Americans with annual incomes over $ 100,000 voted for the incumbent president. On the other hand, 57% of Americans with annual incomes below $ 50,000 voted in favor of Joe Biden.
