Quincy Promes is not really part of Ajax’s selection for Wednesday’s cup match against FC Utrecht. Although the attacker was released on Wednesday, he is still suspected of being involved with a stabbing.
28-year-old Promes was initially arrested on Sunday and consequently heard about the stabbing incident the fact that took place in a shed in Abcoude in July of this year. A relative of the football player suffered a really serious knee injury and filed a report a month ago.
“He is accused, but that does not mean that he’s guilty”, says a spokesman for Ajax. “It goes without saying that there will be a meeting with Quincy first and we are not likely to anticipate that.”
The 47-time Oranje-international denies any involvement in the case. He’s got asked the police to hear witnesses of the stabbing.
The fact that Promes has been released and will therefore not be brought before the examining magistrate, means that there are currently no grounds to keep him longer. And a serious suspicion, there must then be a risk of flight, risk of repetition or the fear that someone will sabotage the investigation.
Promes played in the home game against PEC Zwolle on Sunday. The attacker scored the second goal in the game won 4-0. The next morning he was arrested.
