Unexpectedly, a new competitor may appear on the Android smartphone market. It is also the beginning of an interesting collaboration.
To reach the level of established brands such as Samsung, OnePlus, LG and even Motorola lately, you need a lot of resources and a global supply chain to put smartphones in the hands of customers.
That’s why it might be a little surprising to hear that the new entrant is Qualcomm.
The first news about the market launch appeared in the Taiwanese publication DigiTimes, which claims that a new premium smartphone will be launched by Qualcomm under its own brand. The article indicated that Qualcomm would partner with ASUS to produce and distribute smartphones globally.
What does the new Qualcomm smartphone promise?
It seems that Qualcomm’s intention is to present ultra-premium experiences for Android Snapdragon phones on the market. It is, in fact, a “super phone”, which is designed by Qualcomm, but manufactured by ASUS.
It would probably be a top Snapdragon 875 smartphone, with all the necessary functions to be able to compete with the best offers from other Android manufacturers. The most obvious comparison would be Microsoft Surface’s premium hardware line.
ASUS is already known in the Android smartphone market and produces its own line of gaming smartphones, such as the ROG Phone 3, which is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865+ SoC. However, ASUS will also produce a device that competes directly with its own high-end offerings.
It seems that it would make sense for Qualcomm to announce this new partnership and brand of gaming smartphones at the next Snapdragon Technical Summit, which will take place on December 1st and 2nd.
At that time, Qualcomm is expected to launch Snapdragon 875 SoC, along with a new generation of mid-range Snapdragon 700 Series SoC. And if the rumors are correct, Snapdragon 875 will bring for the first time a 5G modem integrated in its top SoC.
