The warning level in the UK due to the coronavirus has been scaled up from level 3 to level 4, meaning the number of infections, according to medical experts, is “high or growing exponentially,” reports BBC News. Pubs, bars and restaurants in England must therefore close every evening at 10 pm from Thursday.

‘Without action, 50,000 positive tests per day soon’

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will address the British Parliament and people on Tuesday. In his speech, he will almost certainly announce that pubs, bars and restaurants in England will close every night at 10pm from Thursday. Also, guests may only be served while sitting at a table. In some parts of the UK, pubs had to close as early as 9pm.

“No one underestimates the challenges these new measures pose for many individuals and companies. We know it will not be easy, but we must take action to contain the coronavirus resurgence and protect the UK healthcare industry,” Johnson will say, according to an extract from Downing Street.

In Northern Ireland, the measures already in force with regard to the convergence of different households will remain in force for the time being, it was announced on Monday. In addition, additional measures are being taken in four areas in Wales. Additional measures are also expected soon in Scotland.

On Monday it was announced that the shares in large British pub and restaurant groups have fallen sharply due to the possible new lockdown measures in the United Kingdom.

A second wave of the COVID-19 virus is looming in the United Kingdom. Government advisers warned Monday that the number of positive tests could increase by 50,000 a day by mid-October if no action is taken.
