US President Donald Trump, 74, Is Showing Mild, Cold-Like Symptoms, Two People Who Know His Condition Tell The New York Times. Trump announced on Friday that he and his wife Melania (50) tested positive for the corona virus.
Consequences of contamination are unclear
74-year-old Trump shared the information about his contamination in a tweet on Friday, but did not say whether he had any symptoms. Previously, his advisor Hope Hicks tested positive for the virus.
Trump immediately announced on Twitter that he and Melania will immediately go into isolation. For now, he continues his duties from the White House, his official residence and workplace.
His symptoms would still be mild for now. Two sources describe them against The New York Times as mild cold symptoms. He would also have seemed a bit sluggish at a big dinner at his golf club in Bedminster.
After a campaign meeting in Minnesota on Wednesday, the president is also said to have fallen asleep in Air Force One, the presidential plane. Nothing is known yet about the condition of Melania.
The US presidential election will begin in just 32 days. Millions of voters have already started voting, including through the mail or by taking advantage of the option to go to the polls early.
Trump’s positive test raises many questions about the ramifications for his election campaign. Trump has long denied the seriousness of the coronavirus, which he repeatedly compared to the flu.
He also ridiculed Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden this week for wearing a face mask during the first debate between the two last week.
Whether the next two debates between Trump and Biden will continue is unclear. The next one is scheduled for October 15th. That’s in less than two weeks, the period of time that COVID-19 patients normally go into quarantine.
Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden (77) is expected to be tested soon. His candidate for Vice President Kamala Harris (55) has been tested negative.
