According to the American news channel CNN, Trump’s behavior on the phone is exceptionally unusual towards other heads of state or government. German Chancellor Angela Merkel and then British Prime Minister Theresa May in particular had to suffer.

This is evident from a report by the broadcaster based on sources within the White House and the intelligence services.

CNN says the US President has regularly “bullied and humiliated” leaders of America’s major allies.

He told former British Prime Minister Theresa May that she was weak and lacked courage. In a conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, he called her “stupid”.

Still, according to CNN, he rarely conducted prepared talks and tried to impress Russian President Vladimir Putin. On the other hand, he made exceptional calls to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The calls have also helped some senior US officials become convinced that the president himself is a threat to the national security of the United States, CNN writes.

Last year, a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski prompted an impeachment investigation. Trump had encouraged Zelenski to investigate what could potentially harm his political rival, Democrat Joe Biden.
