Despite a lack of competition rhythm, RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann expects a lot from acquisition Justin Kluivert. He has a place as a winger in mind for the Dutchman.

‘Gnabry was a step further than Kluivert’

“Justin has to focus on a position from the flanks, because we are already very well occupied centrally”, Nagelsmann told the German. image.

Just before the close of the transfer market, Kluivert was rented by RB Leipzig from AS Roma, where he got little playing time. Nagelsmann sees in the 21-year-old former Ajax player something back from German international Serge Gnabry, who he previously had under his wing at TSG Hoffenheim.

“If you look at the way of playing football, there are certainly parallels between the two. Serge is an exceptionally good player and of course I would be very happy if Justin could reach that level.”

Kluivert did not get further than two short raids at AS Roma this season. Nagelsmann therefore thinks that the two-time Oranje-international needs some time to reach his top level.

“When Serge came to Hoffenheim at the time, he was a step further. Simply because he had already played regularly at that time. That is not the case with Justin, so he will have to find his rhythm first.”

Kluivert can make his debut for his new club next Saturday. Leader in the Bundesliga RB Leipzig will then visit FC Augsburg, which is second.
