French basketball has a new NBA champ. Axel Toupane from Milwaukee Bucks joined the Habs contingent who won the Larry O’Brien Trophy last night. Six people are now eligible to join this circle: Tony Parker (2003, 2005 and 2007, respectively), Rodrigue Beaubois and Ian Mahinmi, who were crowned with Miami Heat (2012) and Rodrigue Maubois (2011). Boris Diaw was a teammate of “TP” during the Texas conquest.

Satisfaction for the 28-year-old winger, son of former player and trainer Jean-Aimé Toupane, who had a somewhat chaotic journey across the Atlantic. Mulhouse’s native son was not drafted in 2014. He has spent most of his life in Europe (Strasbourg. Kaunas. Olympiakos. Malaga). However, he also had brief experiences in the NBA (Denver Nuggets 2016; Milwaukee Bucks 2017; New Orleans Pelicans 2017); and in NBDL (16 Raptors 905 in 2015-16 and 2016, Santa Cruz Warriors in 2021). There he stood out and shined more.
The NBA Finals are complete in a matter of minutes
Even though this title has not made much, it is proof that you must never give up on your dreams. The Bucks offered him a “two way contract” last March. Axel Toupane did not play much (8 matches, 7.6 minutes per match on average), but he convinced Mike Budenholzer that he would give him a spot in the playoffs squad (4 matches, 2.5 minutes each, 1.3 points, 1.9 rebound average). While he may not have been able to walk the floor against the Phoenix Suns (4-2), he will be wearing his ring. Few people can boast such a feat.
