Before the Russian Grand Prix, the head of Mercedes AMG thanked the teams and spoke about the expectations from the weekend …
Toto Wolff: “After nine stages in eleven weeks, leaving behind half of the championship, Formula 1 received a long-awaited day off.
Formula 1, the FIA and the stage promoters have done an excellent job of scheduling the calendar in difficult conditions, ensuring that we all have a safe return to racing on the tracks. But such a busy schedule turned out to be difficult for the team members, who worked almost without interruption for three months. These women and men – of all teams and in all positions – deserve gratitude, thanks to them we were able to do what we love most – to race.
We go to Russia for the first away stage of the season. In the past we performed well in Sochi, this track has an unusual configuration with a long segment from pole to the first braking.
On this track, pole is not the best starting position, as the riders behind can take advantage of the slipstream. Last year, Vettel overtook Leclerc, who started from pole, and in 2017, Valtteri overtook Ferrari drivers, leading the race after starting from third place. This year we are very fast in qualifying, but in Sochi this strength can be our weakness on race day.
During the Russian Grand Prix, Netflix will be filming an episode of the third season of the Drive to Survive series in our boxes. Last year they filmed us in Hockenheim – the home stage, where we celebrated 25 years in motorsport, and the race was for us the worst of the season. The series turned out to be quite entertaining, but I hope that this time the series will be interesting and we will have a problem-free weekend. “
