Joëlle Smits led PSV to a victory over VV Alkmaar on Friday evening. The top scorer of the Women’s Eredivisie scored both Brabant goals in the 1-2 victory. Subtoppers ADO Den Haag and sc Heerenveen also took three points.

Smits gave PSV the lead in Alkmaar ten minutes after the break from a penalty kick. Fifteen minutes later, the striker also made the 0-2 on a pass from substitute Jeslynn Kuijpers. Charlotte Hulst answered almost immediately with the 1-2, but VV Alkmaar did not get any further.

Twenty-year-old Smits has already scored twelve goals after eight games. With that, the two-time international is well in the lead of the top scorers list of the Women’s Eredivisie.

PSV, which still lost to FC Twente (3-2) on Sunday, remains in second place after the sixth victory of the season, three points from Ajax. The leader is still without losing points after seven duels and will visit FC Twente on Sunday.

ADO Den Haag tied the score in points with the number three from Enschede by settling 3-0 at home with PEC Zwolle. Gwyneth Hendriks opened the score early from a penalty, after which Jaimy Ravensbergen and Anne Sellies ensured a convincing victory in the second half.

Sc Heerenveen remains fifth on three points from ADO. The Frisian team was far too strong for Excelsior at home: 3-0. The goals of Francisca Cardoso, Samantha Dewey and Tiny Hoekstra all fell before half time.
