Harvey Weinstein has to testify in court. Apparently he is doing so badly that he is now asking to pause the proceedings.
Harvey Weinstein (68) does not have Covid-19, but is said to be in bad shape. The former film producer is doing so badly that he is now asking to pause his legal proceedings. A sworn statement is almost impossible for the convicted sex offender, claims his lawyer Imran Ansari. His health has “deteriorated dramatically” in the past few days and the criminal proceedings against him in Los Angeles are to be put on hold for the time being. Ansari argues that it poses too high a risk to Weinstein’s health.
That is what the procedure is about
Alexandra Canosa, a former employee of the Weinstein Company, filed a lawsuit against the 68-year-old in 2018. Weinstein is said to have repeatedly sexually abused her. As “The Hollywood Reporter” writes, the former producer has until January 29th to make his statement. He “vehemently denies these lewd accusations,” says Ansari. In order to underpin the alleged urgency of taking a break, the lawyer states in his letter that Weinstein struggled with diabetes, coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, sleep disorders, chronic leg pain and arthritis.
Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison in February 2020. A jury found him guilty of sexual assault and rape. In Los Angeles, he is also faced with a further eleven charges.
