Climate activist Greta Thunberg (18) used strong words when attending a hearing in the US Congress.
The consultations are held on the occasion of the Global Environment Day “Earth Day” each year, and the US government will subsidize the exploration and extraction of fossil fuels.
Thunberg speaks on the first day of President Joe Biden’s climate summit
The young climate activist said in his speech that he is not a researcher, but climate research has shown the need to reduce emissions, which is self-evident.
-All I can do is encourage you to listen to research opinions and take action, and use common sense.
Then she attacked the older generation.
-I know I am not the one asking questions here, but I want to know one thing. What do you think of it? How long can you ignore the climate crisis without taking responsibility?
-You can get rid of it now, but sooner or later you will be held accountable.
Thunberg continued the long talk-because she hadn’t blamed her parents’ generation yet.
-Unlike you, our generation will spare no effort to give up. To be honest, I don’t believe you will actually do this.
Then she added:
We young people will write information about you in history books. It is up to us to decide how to remember you. Therefore, my advice to you is to choose wisely.
Thunberg also emphasized that compared with the temperature before the industrial revolution, the world is far from reaching the important goal of 1.5 degrees warming.
-In order to reach the 1.5 degree target, there is a huge gap between what we need to do and what we need to do. The gap will increase every minute.
