Arsenal kicked off the Premier League season on Saturday with a convincing 0-3 victory over newly promoted Fulham. Summer acquisition Willian played a leading role with three assists. In Germany Bas Dost helped Eintracht Frankfurt to a victory in the first round of the DFB-Pokal.

At Fulham-Arsenal it was 0-1 halfway at Craven Cottage, when with some luck the ball passed through Willian and goalkeeper Marek Rodák at the feet of Alexandre Lacazette, who finished from close range.
After the break, defender Gabriel Magalhaes, who had come over from Lille OSC, scored the second Arsenal goal from a corner kick from Willian, who was also the lead in the 0-3, a nice shot into the far corner Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The 32-year-old Willian came over a month ago on a free transfer from Chelsea, where he played for seven years. The Brazilian forward signed a three-year contract at the Emirates Stadium.
There was no audience at the London game, as is the case with all Premier League matches for now. Fulham, which is back at the highest level after a year, did it without buying Kenny Tete.
Crystal Palace started the season well by beating Southampton 1-0. Wilfried Zaha already signed in the thirteenth minute for the only goal of the match by working from close range after a measured cross. Palace defender Patrick van Aanholt is recovering from a shoulder injury and was missing at Selhurst Park.

In Germany, Dost was again of value to Eintracht Frankfurt. Partly due to a goal by the 31-year-old Dutchman in the 56th minute, the Bundesliga club won 1-2 against TSV 1860 Munich in the first round of the DFB-Pokal.
Dost’s goal came five minutes after André Silva’s 0-1. The home team did make the tying goal in the 79th minute – Philipp Steinhart used a penalty kick – but the equalizer failed to materialize in the Grünwalder Stadium.
Other clubs in the Bundesliga such as RB Leipzig, VfL Wolfsburg and Borussia Mönchengladbach also made it through the relatively easy first round in the cup tournament without any problems.
