It’s been a year since the first case of COVID-19 was reported, and since then, people have come to appreciate the importance of hygiene more. In recent months, there have been countless studies showing that the virus lasts for days on surfaces. These surfaces are common objects that people touch, such as the doorknob, the elevator button, tables and even a smartphone.
Since most people now have a smartphone, it’s important to always keep these devices clean. Bullitt recently announced the world’s first antibacterial smartphone, which uses silver ions to reduce the spread of germs by 99.9% in just 24 hours.
This antibacterial smartphone is called CAT S42, which is an entry-level phone made to be durable and versatile, perfect for military use. It is currently selling for $ 400, but models that are equipped with Biomaster antimicrobial technology will not be available until 2021.
Bullitt hopes to do all antibacterial CAT smartphones until next year. Although it does not really kill coronaviruses, it prevents the spread of pathogens. The device can reduce microbial transmission by 80% in 15 minutes and 99.9% in 24 hours.
Specifications CAT S42
The CAT S42 has a 5.5-inch screen, Corning Gorilla Glass 5s and Biomaster antimicrobial protection to reduce microbial activity. It has a 1.8GHz Mediatek Helio A20 MT 6761D processor and has 3 GB RAM and 32 GB ROM, not to mention that it also comes with an expandable MicroSD.
As for the camera, the rear has 13 megapixels, while the front has a resolution of 8 megapixels. It runs the Android 10 operating system, but can be upgraded to 11.
It also comes with a 4G network, WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, IP68 and IP69 and MIL 810 H military. Finally, it is resistant to falling up to 1.8 meters, on concrete, after testing.
The first antibacterial smartphone
According to Peter Cunningham, vice president of Bullitt Group, this rugged smartphone is completely waterproof, which means users can wash it with soap and water or use sanitizers to disinfect it. He considers that this feature is especially vital for those who work in healthcare and for those who visit many outbreaks for work.
“Using a CAT phone allows us to have confidence that we can wash and sanitize our phone regularly,” Cunningham said. The CAT S42 is also a new product for CAT phones, making it a safer option for users.
Its main feature is its external component which has been specially treated with Biomaster antimicrobial technology and tested according to ISO 22196. This technology uses silver ions during manufacture to create permanent protection against pathogens and inhibit their spread on the surface of the phone, to reduce the level of microbes.
