Italian councilor does not like the arrival of AZ
In a statement, AZ said that a majority of the positively tested players showed no complaints and that the away game against Napoli in Italy can only be banned by the local authorities.
UEFA will continue the game in Naples. According to the European Football Association, a club of thirteen men (with at least one goalkeeper) must be able to mobilize. AZ will announce a seventeen-member selection on Wednesday.
If the match does not take place, a new date must be found. If the game is not made up before January 28, 2021, a regulatory defeat will follow for the club that suffered from the infections.
Ciro Borriello, the Alderman of Sports in the southern Italian region of Campania, already told Italian media that he is not happy with AZ coming to visit this week. He believes that the match should be postponed and that the entire team of trainer Arne Slot should be quarantined.
In the run-up to the league game against VVV-Venlo (2-2) last Saturday, AZ was also plagued by COVID-19. Four players from the A-selection, two from Young AZ and three employees of the club were found to be infected. The match against VVV also continued.
The game between AZ and Napoli is on Thursday at 6.55 pm in Naples. Three days after the duel with the Italians, the Alkmaarders await an away game against ADO Den Haag in the Eredivisie.
