Five men, two of them minors, were arrested on charges of jointly raping a 14 year old teenager after a party in a favela in Rio de Janeiro.
The five suspects surrendered to authorities today after a arrest warrant issued by the justice following the complaint of the minor.
According to press reports, the events occurred on September 26 in the Morro do Cantagalo favela, in the famous Copacabana neighborhood, in the southern area of Rio de Janeiro, after a party in the community, but the case came to light this week.
The victim told police that he was unconscious and, when he woke up, was being raped in a house by five men, two of whom are minors. The current governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro, today asked the Civil Police for a “rigorous investigation” into what happened.
“Those violations as those of today will not be tolerated by the Civil, Military Police and the Government. We will fight the criminals hard, “he stressed.
Other similar violations
The collective abuse against the minor is similar to another that occurred in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, when a 16-year-old adolescent was raped by about thirty men near an alley in the Morro do Barao favela, in the western part of Rio de Janeiro.
In that the crime was recorded and disclosed by social networks. The case shocked the country and generated a strong rejection from society.
