Yesterday Huawei made HarmonyOS version 2.0 official, where he not only talked about some of the functions that will make this operating system interesting, but also shared the roadmap for the coming months, indicating that the support for phones will arrive from April 2021, although it will not be until October next year that this operating system will work on virtually any phone with more than 4GB of RAM.
This will help developers to work on applications and services for HarmonyOS, however, for now it remains a mystery if the first phone to be launched with HarmonyOS will be from Huawei or from another company, as the brand has said that its system The operating system is open source and can be used by any manufacturer who wants it.
What is a fact are two things; that Huawei does plan to launch at least one phone with HarmonyOS in 2021, and that it will not be necessary to buy this or other devices with HarmonyOS from the factory to test the OS, as a company spokesperson has confirmed that several of the current phones of the company will be upgraded to HarmonyOS.
According menciona Android Authority, Huawei has mentioned the following to them:
“Yes, devices running EMUI 11 based on distributed technology will be eligible to upgrade to Harmony OS in the future”
What phones will be updated?
Because EMUI 11 was also presented yesterday we do not have many details about all its functions, but only about the most relevant ones, so we do not know exactly which teams will be selected, that is, we are not clear if they will be all teams that receive EMUI 11 throughout this and next year, or if only some will be chosen.
Huawei has already confirmed the first phones that will update to EMUI 11, in fact, they commented that the following launches in high-end smartphones and tablets for this year will already carry EMUI 11 from the factory, which is based on Android 11 AOSP.
What is likely is that the first equipment eligible for this update will be the high-end ones, such as the Mate 30 and P40 / and probably the Mate 40 also when it is presented). On the other hand, the question is whether this update will be optional for users or if it will be mandatory, although we would like to believe that it is the first option, since HarmonyOS does not seem to be ready to compete with Android devices in 2021, but we will have to wait to see the first phone with this technology and then make a comparison.
We believe that of all the teams announced yesterday for the EMUI 11 beta, all are candidates for HarmonyOS, but this has not been confirmed by Huawei, the list is as follows:
- Huawei P40, P40 Pro, P40 Pro+
- Huawei Mate 30, Mate 30 Pro, Mate 30 5G, Mate 30 Pro 5G, Mate 30 RS Porsche Design
- Huawei MatePad Pro, MatePad Pro 5G
