The ATP announced that Russia’s second-ranked Daniil Medvedev, who performed well in the Covid-19 competition, was excluded from the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 on the eve of the competition on Tuesday.
In recent days, the Russians have been trained on the courts of the Monte Carlo Country Club, especially with Rafael Nadal.
“It is really disappointing not to be able to play in Monte Carlo. I am completely focused on recovery and look forward to returning to the track as soon as possible,” Medvedev said in an ATP statement.
He is a resident of Monegasque and is allowed to stay at home, unlike non-residents who are subject to strict medical bubble restrictions.
Medvedev reached the semi-finals in the last competition in 2019 and will enter the second round against Filip Krajinovic or Nikoloz Basilashvili this year.
