US Vice President Mike Pence has blamed “undisciplined youth” for not following the government’s pandemic guidelines for the recent spike in business in the country.
While emphasizing the importance of increasing the test in detecting more cases, Pence has pointed out that in the states of Texas and Florida – which have experienced a strong revival – most positives are people of lower ages at 35 years old .
Speaking to the CBS network, he noted that “what is happening is a combination of the increase in tests and the fact that many young people have gathered without respecting the security measures adopted for each stage of economic reopening” . .
Therefore, he stressed that the public “should use the masks when it is not possible to maintain the minimum safety distance established” and stressed that it should also be used “when indicated by local or national authorities.”
“We are following new cases closely in Florida, Texas, Arizona and California,” said Pence, who said he will travel to these states in the coming days to analyze the situation “on the ground.”
For the vice president, the country is now better prepared for the pandemic. “What the American people need to know is that thanks to the leadership of President Donald Trump, thanks to the innovation we introduced, we are better than four months ago,” he said. “We do about 500,000 tests a day,” he added.
In addition, he explained that there is greater sanitation capacity, which implies more personal protective equipment and respirators. Pence took the opportunity to defend the management of the crisis and the way in which the government has delegated to the various states. “We are working with the governors to ensure they have what they need, taking into account the special circumstances of each state,” he added.
In this sense, he has emphasized “success stories” in New York and Washington, among others. “We managed to stop the curve, we were able to stop the virus from progressing and we did it as the number of tests performed increased,” he said.
As early as Friday, Pence blamed the recovery in coronavirus cases in the country for the increase in population tests. However, medical experts have contested this official story and assured that the revival of business is mainly attributed to the reopening of states and Americans easing social distance practices. Also, keep in mind that hospitalizations for coronavirus are increasing in many states.
