Mario Ohoven died at the age of 74. The father of Chiara (35) and Michael (46) Ohoven and the husband of Unesco Ambassador Ute-Henriette Ohoven (74) died in a traffic accident last Saturday (October 31). This was announced by the Federal Association of Medium-Sized Enterprises (BVMW) in a message. Ohoven was president of the association since 1998. “We bow in respectful gratitude to his incomparable life’s work. In two decades, Mario Ohoven has made the BVMW the leading association of medium-sized companies in Germany […] shaped “, says the message.

“With deeply felt compassion we remember an extraordinary person and role model, a visionary entrepreneur and pioneer, a loving husband, father and grandfather”, the BVMW concludes. Federal Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier (62) tweeted a little later: “The news of the sudden accidental death of the middle class president Mario Ohoven shakes me very much.” Ohoven achieved great things for medium-sized businesses and he valued him very much. “Our thoughts are with his family and his co-workers.”

Ohoven, born in Neuss (North Rhine-Westphalia) in 1946, came from a traditional entrepreneurial family and was a trained banker. He later worked as an investment advisor. Until 2005 he was managing partner of the Düsseldorf-based Investor- und Treuhand GmbH.
