This month, more than 20 states imposed new restrictions in an attempt to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

In the last six days, according to Reuters estimates, about 1 million new cases of infection have been reported. Growth accelerated, as the transition from 10 million cases to 11 million was made in eight days, and from 9 million to 10 million cases in ten days.

On the eve of Thanksgiving – celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November in the United States and on the second Monday in October in Canada – authorities are trying to limit travel.

On Friday, more than 1 million people flew from US airports, according to the Transportation Security Administration. Since the beginning of the epidemic here, this has been the second busiest day, despite recommendations by health authorities to stay at home.

The highest number of daily infections was recorded on Friday, 196,815.

Health officials have warned that the health system will soon be overwhelmed if people do not follow the recommendations, especially those on travel and meetings.

Compared to 2019, the number of those traveling by plane in the week of Thanksgiving is expected to decrease by 47.5%. Even so, it is estimated that 2.4 million people will travel by plane. As for car trips, it is expected that they will decrease by only 4%.

Governors in seven Midwestern states – Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and Michigan – have encouraged residents to heed doctors’ advice and not celebrate Thanksgiving with people outside their households.

Regarding Pfizer’s announcement that the vaccine was over 90% effective, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker said, “It’s great news, but that doesn’t mean we have to let our guard down.”

Travel restrictions have been imposed in California since Saturday.

The recent figures announced for the western state are more worrying than the peak recorded in August, according to the Los Angeles Times.

California is currently the second most affected US state after Texas.

According to the new measures, in force until December 21, travel is prohibited between 22:00 and 05:00. The order affects 41 of California’s 58 districts and, in total, more than 94% of the state’s population.

California is home to about 40 million people, the most populous state in the United States.

New York City is one of the areas in the United States where such restrictions are imposed. The premises and gyms can be opened until 22:00, but the schools have been closed.
