The Minister of the Interior of Turkey, Suleyman Soylu, as well as his wife and daughter, have been admitted to a hospital after having tested positive for Covid-19 last Monday, the minister himself reported this Saturday on his Twitter account.

Ibrahim Kalin, spokesman for the country’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, also announced this Saturday that he has been infected with coronavirus, although without specifying when, and has assured that he is already well.
“I completed the last stage of the coronavirus treatment, which has come to an end. Thank God, andI’m pretty good now “Kalin wrote in a tweet.
A week ago also the mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem Imamoglu, announced to have contracted the disease, although with mild symptoms and receiving treatment at home.
Turkey is a country relatively little affected by the pandemic, with a total of 10,177 deaths recorded as of this Saturday, although some estimates, based on the excess mortality observed in the country, suggest that the number of fatalities may be between 50% and 100% higher.
During the first wave, the country of 80 million inhabitants registered up to 120 deaths a day, a figure that fell to 15 in summer, but rose again in September to stabilize in the last month among the 60 and 80 deaths a day.
