A very special horror film of which the trailer has just been released will premiere at the Nightstream Film Festival: it is Frank & Zed, a film made entirely with puppets by its creator over seven years.
Anyone who knows the world of animation knows how much time, care and money it takes to make a film entirely with puppets. The Portland director and puppeteer was definitely not put off Jesse Blanchard, which took a full 7 years to give birth to this Frank & Zed, a horror that will be premiered at the new Nightstream Film Festival which will take place from 8 to 11 October.
Made entirely by hand, the film, of which the teaser trailer (accompanied by the appreciation of masters of the horror genre) “is filled to the bloody brim with long-forgotten ancient secrets, a cursed castle and a world of incredible characters who honor the legacy and humor of the Muppets and at the same time leave their terrifying sign in the world of cinema “.
Frank & Zed was shot by Blanchard in 4K in his garage and in a nearby studio, where he worked nights and weekends until two Kickstarter campaigns, in 2015 and 2017, allowed him to spend more time on it. It required the creation of 40 specially made puppets, miniatures, a cloud tank to create clouds and smoke and authentic fire.
I embarked on this journey seven years ago – Blanchard told the Hollywood Reporter – which is 20% of my life. I know that the world I have created is just an illusion, that none of it is real. Yet in a way Frank and Zed have become close friends of mine. I was lucky enough to have an incredible team and they resurrect them to tell this unique story of mine and I couldn’t be more proud of the final result. This film is my personal dream world brought to life. And now, thanks to the amazing Nighstream programmers, others will finally be able to share that dream.
Judge for yourself from the short trailer, which looks really interesting to us.
