After the first Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey, a fan suggests James Gunn was forced to put Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn into the new Suicide Squad – here’s his answer.
In the new The Suicide Squad – Missione suicida by James Gunn, out inestate 2021, there will still be Margot Robbie in the role of Harley Quinn: in fact Harley is one of the few appearances reconfirmed by David Ayer’s first and highly criticized Suicide Squad of 2016. A fan suggested that his presence was forced upon Gunn, also a screenwriter, from the top floors of Warner Bros: basically Harley Quinn is an element of marketing very powerful, so much so that it even generated the spin-off of Birds of Prey. James Gunn is not an author who uses words, so much so that his gab has cost him for a while the departure from the saga of Guardians of the Galaxy of Disney / Marvel. To a precise question: “Harley is there because Warner wanted him?”, James replied non-diplomatically on social media.
But don’t bullshit, he’s probably my favorite DC character. And Margot Robbie is perhaps among the best actresses I’ve ever worked with.
Clear and round. Note that in the original Gunn uses the term “actor“, which defines the profession in general, without gender declination, so James is actually saying that Margot Robbie stands out among all the professionals he has ever worked with. An opinion that is not only his, on the other hand Margot has to his credit already two nomination all’Oscar, for Tonya and Bombshell (best protagonist and best supporting actor), and for some years he has also been coproducer of several films he plays.
For the record, among the characters / actors returning to The Suicide Squad – Missione suicida after the previous one Suicide Squad, in addition to Harley Quinn, there are Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) e Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman).
