Eden Hazard was the star signing of Real Madrid in the summer of 2019. After a disappointing season in which the white team longed for the figure of a great star after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, Florentino Pérez pulled the checkbook (100 million fixed euros plus 40 in variables) to take over the Belgian midfielder, who came from have a great season with Chelsea and that was also express request of Zinedine Zidane.
Hazard was called to lead the new madridista project, but the doubts about the Belgian began as soon as he joined the team. He did it with a few extra kilos, as he himself recognized later, and his fitness was not the most suitable.
It was not, however, his excess weight that began to condition his performance, but physical problems. A muscle injury when the season was about to startIn mid-August, he took him off the pitch for almost a month. It was difficult for him to get into the team and take the form and, when a better version of the red devil began to be seen, a thin fissure on the left foot after hard tackle from compatriot Thomas Meunier, in the match against PSG, he left him off the pitch for more than two months.
Again it was difficult for Hazard to return, inactivity took its toll, and shortly after returning to the pitch, already entered in February, the pandemic stopped the competition.
When football returned, Hazard was seen far removed from the one who had shone at Chelsea until he was recognized as the best player in the Premier League. He had a hard time getting the shape and his ankle didn’t look like it was before. In the league marathon of eleven games in a month and a half, Hazard missed a couple of them by one hit. Zidane trusted him for the decisive duel against Manchester City in the Champions, but the Belgian went totally unnoticed and the criticisms focused on why he had started in front of a Vinícius who had shone much more than the Belgian in the final of the League.
At the start of this season, with Hazard special care has been taken. His preseason again left some doubts about his physical condition, but what worried him the most was his ankle. For this reason, he did not play for Belgium in the Nations League, Roberto Martínez acknowledged that he was not ready. And later, Zidane did not summon him neither for the match against RealSociedad nor for Betis.
For the clash against Valladolid came the good news, the Belgian entered Zidane’s list. “What he wants is to play. He has had a big problem that has bothered him. What we want, he the first, is that he does not suffer. The season is very long. He is a professional and wants to be with his teammates and help” explained the French coach. However, and when everything was ready for the premiere of Hazard, a new blow came, an unexpected injury. The club reported that he suffered “a muscle injury in his right leg” that will leave him out for about a month.
The strangest thing about Hazard’s case is the constant injuries he is having as a target when in his career he had hardly had any physical problems. At Chelsea, in seven seasons, the Belgian missed a total of 20 games, being on leave for just over six months adding all his absences due to injury. On the other hand, in just over a year as a Real Madrid player he has missed more games due to injury (33) and has been a total of almost eight months out.
