The situation seems to be better in Serbia, which announced 173 new cases and one death on Friday. In total, Serbia, a country of 6.9 million people, has so far registered 34,517 cases of infection with the new coronavirus, of which 761 are fatal.

Into the Republic of Moldova (over 3 million inhabitants), the number of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 reached 60,833, after 918 cases were registered on Friday. Authorities in Chisinau also announced 18 coronavirus deaths in the last 24 hours. 1,442 people, including 39 medical staff, have died from the new coronavirus across the Prut.

On Thursday, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported a record increase in the number of coronavirus cases worldwide, by 338,779 in 24 hours, amid a worsening situation in Europe.

Europe reported 96,996 new cases, the highest total in the region recorded so far by the WHO. By region, Europe currently reports more cases than India, Brazil and the United States.
