A reboot of the series of The Scorpion King, itself a spin-off of The Mummy, will be released, in which Dwayne Johnson launched his career as a lead actor.

The Scorpion King is ready to return, with a reboot that will be the fifth film in a series that began in 2002 as a spin-off of The Mummy. Written by the screenwriter of Straight Outta Compton, Jonathan Herman, the film will see the return of Dwayne Johnson as a producer, after the character appeared as Brendan Fraser’s antagonist in The Mummy: Returns. Success came the following year, with The Scorpion King launching the acting career of former wrestler The Rock.

The reboot is described as a contemporary adaptation, not set in antiquity like the original. Johnson may appear in the film, but he will not reprise the lead role, Mathayus. “The Scorpion King was my first ever role on the big screen and I am honored and excited for the opportunity to bring and reinterpret this mythology to a new generation,” he said in a statement. Dwayne Johnson. “I wouldn’t have had the career I’m lucky to have if it wasn’t for The Scorpion King, and I am thrilled that with Seven Bucks Production we will create new opportunities for other players today ”.
