After reaching the top with Glee and American Horror Story, Ryan Murphy does not stop producing fictions for his new great ally Netflix, a company with which he signed an exclusive contract for five years for more than 300 million dollars. The duo’s new project already has a release date and promises to be a success. Above all, for the superstar who is going to star in it: Meryl Streep.

This is the film version of The Prom, a story that was originally a Broadway musical that debuted in 2018. The script follows four actors who travel to a conservative Indiana city to help a lesbian student who is banned from taking her girlfriend to the high school prom.

The play was nominated for six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Original Score, and Lead Actor and Lead Actress in a Musical.

“On December 11, let Netflix take you to the prom that you didn’t get this year,” wrote Murphy, who is directing the film on Instagram.

One of the biggest draws to this story is its star-studded cast. Also, from Meryl Streep, James Corden, Nicole Kidman, Kerry Washington, Keegan Michael-Key, Andrew Rannells and Ariana DeBoseson are some of the familiar faces that will star in Murphy’s first Netflix movie.

According Variety, filming was temporarily suspended in Los Angeles due to the pandemic of coronavirus, but once the industry began to reopen, it was possible to finish filming.

“Meet the incredible cast full of icons from The Prom from Netflix. A group of true soldiers buckled up and finished shooting during COVID so that we could provide everyone with an inspirational and aspirational story that we all need right now. Christmas is just around the corner … “Kidman wrote on his Instagram account.

This project is on the list of Murphy premieres scheduled for this year. Some of the next fictions that will see the light this 2020 are The Politician season 2, Ratched and The Boys in the Band.

For now, there are only two Netflix exclusive series made by the director on the streaming platform. The political story with which he debuted on the platform stars Ben Platt, Julia Schlaepfer, Laura Dreyfuss, Theo Germaine and has the special participation of Gwyneth Paltrow, one of the classic actresses of the director’s projects.

The Politician focuses on the life of a wealthy student from Santa Barbara, California named Payton Hobart (Platt). From the age of seven he has been very clear about his objectives: to be president of the United States. But first he will have to delve into the world of politics at Saint Sebastian High School.

The other series available is Hollywood, which has 7 episodes and is set in 1940. The script follows Jack (David Corenswet), a war veteran who, every morning, stands with other actors at the doors of the prestigious Ace Pictures studios, waiting to be chosen to participate as an extra in a movie.

Jim Parsons, who for 12 seasons played Sheldon Cooper, the know-it-all of The Big Bang Theory, is the star actor. Fiction reflects real events and characters from the golden age of cinema.
