The duel between Villa Dálmine and Platense next weekend will be played on the premises of the Argentine Association of Referees, where the AFA will test the technology to assist the judges for the first time.
The arrival of the VAR to Argentine football was expected, but finally there is a date for its premiere: the AFA will test it for the first time in the friendly next Saturday between Villa Dálmine and Platense (of the Primera Nacional), which will take place in the Argentine Association of Referees for a proper implementation of the mechanism.
Video arbitration, which is already used in matches by Argentine teams at the Conmebol level in the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana, will now be tested under the orbit of the Argentine Football Association.
However, Federico Beligoy, the director of Arbitration Training, reported a few days ago that there will be no VAR in the First Division Professional League Cup, which begins on October 30.
“We are still in the educational process. The idea is that the VAR is in the 2021 tournament, in February or March. We are working at full capacity, to be able to arrive with the best possible training, “said Beligoy.
The video test is already in use in Brazil, Paraguay – promoted by Horacio Elizondo, head of the Guarani referees – and Ecuador. And Colombia has already implemented it in some parties.
The VAR had been announced for August 2019 by the president of the AFA, Claudio Tapia. Then it was delayed and finally the pandemic caused another delay.
Now, It will be a pilot test in the friendly between Dálmine and Platense, in view of extending it to all of Argentine football for next year.
