Presented in Italian preview a few weeks ago at Rome Film Festival, Soul, the new animated feature film Disney-Pixar, will debut directly streaming December 25, 2020 exclusively on Disney +.
Written and directed by Pete Docter (the author of Pixar masterpieces such as Monsters & Co., Up e Inside Out) e Kemp Powers (American playwright and screenwriter who wrote a film you will hear a lot about, One Night in Miami, presented out of competition at the last one Venice Film Festival), the film tells the story of Joe Gardner, a middle school music teacher who has the unique opportunity to play at the best jazz venue in town. But one small misstep will take him from the streets of New York City to the Anti-World, a fantastic place where new souls develop personalities, interests and manias before they go to Earth. Determined to return to his life, Joe allies himself with 22, a precocious soul who never understood the appeal of the human experience. As Joe desperately tries to show 22 what makes life so special, he’ll find answers to the most important questions about existence.

“It all began with my son who is now 23. The instant he was born, I realized he already had a personality of his own,” said the director and Chief Creative Officer of Pixar Animation Studios. Pete Docter. “Where did it come from? I believed that personality develops through interaction with the world. Yet it was quite clear that we are all born with a unique and specific perception of who we are. In our history,” he continues, “everyone is born with a soul. And these souls do not arrive unprepared: they are formed and receive a personality and interests “.
