On Friday there was a meeting between Matías Lammens and the Argentine basketball leadership to begin working on the return of the contest, suspended due to the outbreak of Covid cases in the campuses.
After the outbreak of Covid-19 cases in the different campuses of the National Basketball League that led to its suspension by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, this Friday a meeting was held between the head of that portfolio , Matías Lammens, and the leadership of the Argentine Basketball Confederation – Club Association.
The idea of the latter is clear: resume activity in the first days of December. In the government they accept it, but they are cautious and will wait for the presentation of the protocols.
Next weekend (Friday 27 and Saturday 28 November) Argentina will play in Obras Sanitarias the second qualifying window for the Americup 2021 against Chile and Colombia, respectively. The AdC has determined that vernacular competition resumes immediately after it.
It is spoken of Monday 30 or, at the latest, of the first days of December. The format has not yet been defined: whether in a single city, as was tried in Buenos Aires, or respecting the teams’ locations, as football is doing with the Professional League, for example, although the first option is much stronger.
It is clear that, in this case and if it is played in a single place, there will not be massive concentrations of teams to prevent, precisely, that the infections of one campus can affect the others. The idea is not to allow more than two or three computers to be hosted on the same host.
Beyond this, government entities are much more cautious regarding any confirmation of dates. Minister Lammens agrees that the return should take place in December, as long as the protocols are properly worked out and approved by the Ministry of Health.
In that sense, although the one presented at the time was correct and had logically been approved, the failure of its application will make the authorities even more demanding this time.
The meeting also served to calm the waters, especially on the side of the CABB because its head, Fabián Borro, had been very upset with the development of the events of last Wednesday.
The also president of Works, they assure, had resolved to suspend the National League, even with the permission of the players, but he did not even raise it: he learned by this means that the Ministry of Tourism and Sports suspended the league because of the multiple infections that had been registered in the “bubbles”.
They consisted of 20 teams divided into two zones of 10 and each “conference” divided into two hotels; one in Vicente López and another near the San Telmo area.
Currently, most of the teams have already left their accommodations and the Ramada hotel, in the Buenos Aires town, was set up almost like a “field hospital” to contain the thirty players and team personnel who were infected with Covid-19 from an outbreak that started last weekend.
