A few days after the press conference of the Deputy Minister of Sports, Lefteris Avgenakis, in which he spoke about clubs-seals, the plenary of EOE issued a statement-response in a strong style.
The announcement in detail:
“The Plenary Session of the Hellenic Olympic Committee during its last meeting discussed the content of the recent, extremely offensive, reports of the Deputy Minister of Culture & Sports Mr. E. Avgenakis, to the detriment of the overall edifice of the Sports Movement of our country, but also those who over time serve at every level.
To restore reality, the Greek Olympic Committee points out the following:
The legitimacy of sports clubs is proven by the existence of the code of their special sports recognition by the GGA and their ongoing sports activity, as described in the existing legal framework for Sports and implemented through procedures that the State applies or supervises.
Based on their statutes, but also on the existing State Laws on Sports, the Sports Federations have no jurisdiction to control the finances of their member clubs.
On the contrary, by law, it is the obligation of the State to exercise the specific financial control, on an annual basis and not only before the elections of the Federations.
All Federations, regardless of the source of their revenue, have been harmonized with the Single Payment Authority.
The poverty in the labor market of the professional coaches of all Sports is due to the refusal of the GGA, in the last 10 years, to organize the respective schools, but also to approve the coaching regulations submitted annually by each federation.
Within this extremely limited context, which is obviously not dictated by the choices of the Sports Movement, the clubs are called upon to be staffed with coaches.
The systematic instrumentalization of athletes, who have no experience in the way federations are run and are not aware of the enormous difficulties that arise on a daily basis both in the effort to develop their own sports and their own athletic preparation, does not contribute at all to development of the country’s sport, on the contrary reserve only catastrophic consequences in the field of each sport.
In conclusion: no one can deny that Greek Sports, for the last 35 years is the leading ambassador of Greece, having to show countless, unforgettable and historic successes of Olympic level and world scope on an individual and team level.
His people have a right to be proud of the flawless organization of the 2004 Olympic Games, in which the Greek sportsmen and the national federations had a huge contribution, which is why the same people played – and still play – a significant role in international level.
Following this, but also after the imposition of a new lock down in the country, the Plenary Session of the Hellenic Olympic Committee asks the Deputy Minister of Culture & Sports:
The recruitments of the sports federations should be done based on two of the three elements provided by Law 4726/20, ie the Special Sports Recognition and the foreseen number of athletes in the last 3 calendar years.
To give the sports clubs the opportunity to settle their outstanding issues in the established Sports Register by the end of 2021.
To request from the federations – members of EOE to send to the Hellenic Olympic Committee the number of clubs that have Special Sports Recognition, as well as how many of them have the necessary number of athletes in the last 3 years as provided by law “.
