The plot of The Prom
Dee Dee Allen (three-time Academy Award® winner Meryl Streep) and Barry Glickman (Tony Award® winner James Corden) are New York City stage stars grappling with a critical situation: their expensive new show of Broadway is a big flop that has suddenly destroyed their careers. Meanwhile, in a small Indiana town, high school student Emma Nolan (newcomer Jo Ellen Pellman) is experiencing a very different sorrow: despite the support of the high school principal (Keegan-Michael Key), the head from parent-teacher association (Kerry Washington) has banned her from attending the prom with her girlfriend, Alyssa (Ariana DeBose). When Dee Dee and Barry decide that Emma’s plight is the perfect cause to help them rehabilitate their public image, they travel with Angie (Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman) and Trent (Andrew Rannells), another. couple of cynical actors looking for a professional rise. But their self-centered celebrity activism backfires unexpectedly and the four find themselves turning their lives upside down as they come together to offer Emma a night where she can celebrate who she really is.
