For a long time Samsung it has the 5nm process technology ready to apply to one of its processors and finally the information about that component begins to leak. The Samsung Exynos 1080 sees its technical details filtered and everything points in the direction that it will be the first chip of this manufacturer with 5nm technology.
That does not mean that it will be Samsung’s premium chip for the year 2021. The Exynos 1080 would be used in midrangers high-end with access to 5G connectivity like the Galaxy A from nomenclature 70 upwards. Or upcoming Galaxy S FE. But it would not be the SoC that we have to expect within the international Galaxy S21 or Galaxy S30.
Exynos 1080 Leaked Details
Once Huawei presents its Kirin 9000 and Qualcomm its Snapdragon 875 then Samsung will join them with the Exynos 1080 to the club of manufacturers who have a processor with the new 5nm process technology on the market. Also, being the successor to the Exynos 980, the Exynos 1080 would have an integrated 5G modem.
The Exynos 1080 would be composed of new high-performance cores: the ARM Cortex-A78 that would be up to 20% faster than the ARM Cortex-A77 cores and up to 50% more efficient in their consumption.
And all this taking into account that the Cortex-A78 cores have a working frequency of 2.1GHz while the Cortex-A77 work with a frequency of up to 2.3GHz.
An important part of every chip is its respective graphics processor which, in this case, would be the ARM Mali-G78. Naturally, this GPU would be more powerful than its predecessor, the Mali-G77, but we still don’t know by how much.
The Samsung Exynos 1080 sees its technical details filtered and since it does not have Mangoose cores we can deduce that this will not be the successor to the Exynos 990, which is the SoC that we expect to debut within the next flagships premium de Samsung.
