Henrik Lundqvist is very aware of his heart problem and knows he will have to have a knife one day. However, the shocking inspection made a radical change in the goalkeeper’s life in December, suddenly putting his career in danger.
“I have known about heart disease for 15 years. Lundqvist said in a long interview with NHL Network on Sunday that my valve is leaking and sometimes needs to be repaired. But a few months later, the situation has changed and the leak has become more serious. I His aorta is starting to become too big. The pressure on the heart is too much.”
After the surgery in January, Lundqvist had difficulty recovering, and he had to use a walker for a few days after the operation. But seven weeks later, he resumed training on ice.
He now wants to return to the National Hockey League (NHL), but he knows he still has a lot of work to do, and he thinks his current state is similar to August.
He said: “This is a different battle, but I think the key is to stay in the moment.” He compared his situation with the way he played in the playoffs. “Don’t look too far. This is what I am going to do now, one step at a time.”
Even so, Lundkwest sometimes imagined himself competing for the Stanley Cup on ice. Therefore, he firmly believes that his desire to win has not been compromised and that he will do his best to get the final chance of victory.
However, his next medical examination is very important to assess his ability to return to the NHL.
“I saw him. I understand, Lundkvist repeated. But to a certain extent, this is beyond my control. I have to listen to the conversation with an expert.”
