No one has made more mistakes in the Premier League in recent years, but Everton legend Neville Southall still defends national team goalkeeper Jordan Pickford (26).
– He has had three bad minutes in half a year, if that is so much, Southall says after Pickford again made a mistake against Brighton last weekend.
– He makes too many mistakes, the old top player Chris Sutton told BT Sport after the match.
– He gives the impression that he is full of self-confidence, but it is clear that he is not, said Sutton, reproduced by.
Welshman Robbie Savage said he thought the mistakes would cause Pickford to lose its position as England’s number one goalkeeper. Wales in particular are England’s opponents at Wembley on Thursday night.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti did not criticize his goalkeeper in public, but said he would talk to Pickford.
“His mistake does not kill us, I think it’s good, and when he finds the form, we will fly,” Neville Southall told Sky Sports.
The same Sky Sports has statistics on mistakes that Premier League goalkeepers have made since 2017 – and which have led to goals. This uncomfortable statistic is topped by Pickford with 11 ahead of Asmir Begovic with 10, Martin Dubravka with 9 and Hugo Lloris with 8 errors.
– It will be a time that we have the little dump in the way, and maybe we have to trust him. Maybe people need to change their minds. But if Ancelotti wants to play with you, then you have to be semi-independent. If there was any doubt about his job, there would have been a taxi outside Goodison, Southall says.
