Surprisingly, Universal has decided to bring forward the American release of The Croods 2 in November, in contrast to the slips that are affecting this terrible year.
In these times when postponing high-budget films is commonplace, it is surprising to read that Universal has decided to follow an opposite strategy In Croods 2, sequel DreamWorks Animation of a first chapter that dates back to several years ago: in the USA therelease was brought forward from Christmas to November, placing this sequel dedicated to the crazy cave family directly against No Time To Die (the new Bond with Daniel Craig, due out on November 12) and Soul from Pixar. Regarding this specific competitor, the choice of Universal top management is suspect: just yesterday, in fact, we told you that Soul may be streamed to Disney + (decision not confirmed). Is Universal not afraid of such competition, the direct challenge in terms of animation for all, or does it know for sure that Soul will not be in the room at that moment?
While waiting for revelations on the yellow, we remember that In Croods 2 restarted in 2017 after being canceled (or rather “suspended”) in 2016. It had to happen, because the first Croods in 2013 had still grossed 587 million dollars for a 135 budget, proving to be a very solid success, and DreamWorks has all in all, the first sequel to less profitable films was in the works (see the case of Trolls World Tour). However, The Croods 2 is no longer directed by the duo Chris Sanders – Kirk DeMicco, but by Joel Crawford, story artist of the company for over ten years; the screenplay is instead by Dan & Kevin Hageman, very active on the Netflix series Trollhunters. The story of The Croods 2, whose Italian release is currently still located at Christmas, sees the gang challenged by the rival family of the Bettermans, who, as the name suggests, consider themselves better and more advanced than our heroes …
