Screams and cries of despair are heard in the recordings that captured the catastrophic moment in which several shelves in a supermarket were suddenly collapsing, leaving one fatality and eight injuries.

The event occurred this Friday in the Brazilian city of Sao Luis, while several customers were making their usual purchases in a store of the ‘Mix Mateus Atacarejo’ chain. In the images recorded by the security cameras of the establishment, it looks like the large metal structures of the supermarket they begin to collapse, in a domino effect, on customers.

The firefighters and health professionals who went to the supermarket were trcoming down late into the night, looking for possible victims who may have been shot for the five shelves and products that fell, according to local media.

After hours eleven hours of rescue – in which some 170 members participated -, it became known the death of one of the supermarket employees and the eight people who had been injured were transferred to hospital.

The group that owns the Mateus supermarket network closed all its stores this Saturday in mourning, regretted what had happened and promised help for the victims and those affected. At the moment, the causes that caused the accident are unknown.
