Oriol Mitjà, infectologist at the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital (Can Ruti) in Badalona and advisor to the Government in the Covid-19 pandemic last March, applauded the mass testing strategy carried out by the Community of Madrid and has asked Catalonia to use the same tactic, according to El Periódico.

In an interview during the broadcast of the program ‘Planta baixa’ on TV-3, the doctor has stated that for weeks he put on the Catalan table a proposal similar to the one that the capital is developing nowadays. And it is that for the expert, the strategy launched by the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, based on the use of five million antigen tests and mass screening in the areas most affected by the virus, “It is working for him without having to shut down the economy.”

According to the infectologist, the antigens could accelerate the de-escalation in Catalonia. However, the Secretary of Public Health of Catalonia, Josep Maria Argimon, has doubted that the good evolution of Madrid is due to these tests, if notto the fact that it started its second wave long before its territory.

“Salut makes a series of drawbacks, which I call bureaucratic, because they are looking for the computers to be able to collect all the results and, also, they are worried that they will give a false sense of security “said Mitjà, who considers that these obstacles do not exist in the Ayuso region and confesses that today he “would like more to work in the Community of Madrid”.
